  • DREDD – Getting there…

0 CommentsPosted by on September 17, 2012 under FILM and TV, NEWS
Dredd. We've all been entirely too excited by news of this reboot at GZ headquarters, and it was with some trepidation that I finally slung my subhuman ass down to the 02 cinema in Greenwich. After a frankly terrifying cable car trip over the thames, I wandered in,  got my tesco groceries consficated by the cinema staff (They clearly thought my haul of tinned tuna and dried chocolate nesquik ... more.

"What islands" says you "I live more than 500 miles from the nearest large body of water, I've never even seen the sea" Alright guy, calm down, I'm just making reference to the relentless growth of Netflix in Ireland and the UK where they've just signed up their one millionth customer. A godsend in Ireland in particular as our regional television company RTE is run by gibbering luddites who st... more.

To celebrate 40 years of bad films, Troma movies have put the hilarious Poultrygeist : Night of the Chicken Dead in its entirety on youtube! It's rubbish and and contains several really bad songs but it's also great fun if you can switch off every single critical faculty you possess. Worth watching just for the toilet scene around 22 minutes... ... more.

Are you ready for another dose of shouting, wobbly camerawork, loud bangs and budget-friendly barely-glimpsed special effects? Well then here's the trailer for the fourth installment of the Paranormal Activity franchise. It's the first real sequel to the first movie, as the second happened at the same time and the third was a prequel. So here the story has jumped forward 5 years to 2011...the ... more.

If you were a child of the early eighties like most of us decaying fossils at GZ you probably came across a few of these green-backed tomes, they were a kind of gateway drug to D+D and other activities involving 20-sided dice and other squinting prepubes gathering around a table pretending to be warlocks. I had at least 10 of them myself, sucked in by awesome cover art but unfortunately readin... more.

..and as you may have expected, it appears to be utter rubbish and ironically completely forgettable. Not only is director Len Wiseman having consentual intercourse with Kate Beckinsale, he's also having a good go at raping the past. Pop over to RT for the full scoop, or just have a nosey at these....ouch. ..It's only evident passion is for excessive lens flares... ...director Len Wisema... more.

Most of the tribe here enjoy a bit of a bash on fifa or pro evo but none of us have ever fallen under the spell of powerpoint-meets-crack Football (or Championship) Manager. It's been 20 years since it landed and been quoted as possibly the greatest time-burglar of all time,  specifically cited in "35 divorce cases" and dragging thousands of otherwise normal men into the cult. Have a gander at th... more.

They'll get it right..eventually. Right? Is anyone else bored yet? As we prepare for possibly the least anticipated remake ever....Colin Farrell in Len Wiseman's Total Recall...it's probably a good time to slow down and have a think about why this is happening. You can't even blame the idiot public...once a studio gets a franchise opportunity in their head they will push it, remould it and kee... more.

It's a sexy but horrible three-way today as we do a quick round up of a trio of recent blood-soaked new arrivals. First up is John Cusack in The Raven, a ropy gothic police procedural about a Edgar Allen Poe-inspired serial killer. You know the kind of thing...walling people up, bisecting them via razor edged pendulum device etc. Think Se7en meets Sleepy Hollow. Eddie himself (coming across as... more.

By Pluto's Urethra! The ludicrously entertaining Spartacus is coming back for a third and final season as Spartacus, Crixus, Gannicus and the lads take the fight to the right nasty Roman legions. It even look like the production crew have managed to get their hands on a second-hand copy of Massive for some unconvincing large scale cg rucks! You can keep Game of Thrones and its lumbering machiave... more.

...and the word is...Goood! We all worship Joe D here at Gamerillaz and it looks like this reboot has brought the extreme violence and dark humour we all loved from 2000ad, completely bypassing comedy sidekicks and love interests along its way...thankfully. Karl Urban doesnt take his helmet off, there's no codpieces, the violence is Paul-Verhoeven like in its extremity and well let's just say we'r... more.

Are you married? Is it getting a bit, well, irregular? Does your wife eye your naked sagging body with barely-disguised horror and seem stricken with a permanent headache? Looks interesting this...the latest high profile kickstarter project is an open-source android-powered, low cost games system. It looks interesting....I have an android phone myself and there are some decent games for it, but they are mostly tower defence things and, er, Angry Birds. What makes me -very- interested though is there is already an impressive set of emulators for android systems, and ... more.
