PlayStation Plus – On Vita

It’s fair to say that PlayStation Plus has been gaining traction as a valued and credible service over the last year. Sony has been adding more and more positives to Plus for some time now including discounted offers, early and exclusive access to PSN content, automatic updates, syncing of trophy info and save game data up to one gigabyte and Your Instant Game Collection. Your Instant Game Collection is without doubt the most impressive offering as it allows you to download entire games for free including must haves like LittleBigPlanet 2, InFamous 2 and Resident Evil 5 and play them for as long as you remain a member. At just under fifty quid for a year’s membership I finally made the decision to add that bright yellow plus sign to my PS3 and with news of PlayStation Plus coming to the Vita on November 21st it looks like I may be a member for life!

Attack of the Games

That’s right, from next Wednesday the Vita will support PlayStation Plus. Or should that be the other way around? Either way the upgrade will come alongside the latest firmware update to version 2.00. And if you’re already a member on PS3 then you need not spend another cent, you’ll be an instant member on Vita too. In addition to all the good stuff you have right now you’ll be able to add four great Vita games to your collection for free; Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush,  Chronovolt and Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack. That’s a whole lot of free gaming on a system that is still waiting to celebrate its first birthday. You’ll also get another gigabyte of cloud storage that will enable you to backup trophies and save games and, just like PS3, you’ll be able to set your Vita to backup data and download game patches automatically while you’re tucked up in a bed or propping up the bar.

Time to take the leap?

If you’ve been flirting with the idea of getting a Vita or becoming a member of PlayStation Plus then this may be the news you’ve been waiting for. As an extra incentive Sony will be lopping 20% off the price of some other great Vita titles like Escape Plan and Super Stardust Delta for the first week of the service. Of course if you’re already a member like me then you just need to sit back and wait for the free games to roll in!
