Runescape, that grand old lady of online gaming, is changing up it’s combat style as Jagex announce the start of the Evolution of Combat Beta, which will see 50,000 testers try out new battle features. The 11 year old MMO will see the introduction of features which are familiar to other online titles such as duel wield, action bars and new abilities which unlock as the battle progresses.
Mark Ogilvie, RuneScape’s Lead Designer had this to say about these new features:
“We really wanted to make our conflict game play more about the actual art of combat, so we’ve added amazing abilities which will give the player a wealth of choices to use in PvE and PvP combat, and the way those abilities relate to each other will bring a completely new sense of tactical depth to the game. We’ve also made huge improvements to the look and sound of combat, meaning the entire game has become a far more gritty, visceral and adrenaline pumping experience.”
If you happen to have played RuneScape within the last 12 months you will also be able to take part in the beta events which will be held over a number of upcoming weekends. These “members-only” testing sessions begin on the 7th July and we are told will run long enough to give just about everyone a chance to experience these new fighting styles before they become part of the core game.
