Before every Thomas, Richard and Harold had a video games console in their home we hardcore nerd-a-lingers had to make do with pen and paper role-playing table top games. Now, before you call for your geek bat of prejudice I’d just like to say we didn’t all play the horrid dungeon crawling snore-fest D&D, oh no. I spent most of my P&P time as a vampire or as some poor sod giving it toes pursued by the Star Spawn of Cthulhu.
Another fine example of none wizards based dice rolling was the futuristic Cyberpunk and today the developers behind the Witcher titles have announced a new release based upon that very same 80′s tabletop game.
During the CD Projekt Red Press Conference today Mike Pondsmith, creator of Cyberpunk spoke about the collaboration, saying:
“For over two decades, I’ve been proud to say that Cyberpunk’s been the gold standard of what it means to be a true cyberpunk game. And it’s been a huge success for me and our many fans, with over 5 million players worldwide,” commented the US author and game creator.
“But over all that time we haven’t found the right team to bring our cyberpunk world to full digital life – until now,” he added. “CD Projekt Red is the team we’ve been hoping for. Their incredible work on The Witcher and The Witcher 2 shows that they share the same dedication and love of great games that we do at Talsorian.”
The following video should give a little more idea of what to expect from the new RPG as well as giving some background to those of you who have never come across the P&P book which this new project will be based upon. While you watch that, I’m off to change these pants. I have just had what I like to call a ‘geek leak’ due to all this excitement.
