Cheap as Chimps – 9th March 2012

Cheap as Chimps – 9th March 2012

Another Friday has rolled around and that means the Gamerillaz Crew have been hunting down the best gaming prices from around the internet. This weeks deals include invasion, the red planet, colours and worrying about water treatment plants.

Mass Effect 3; at Amazon UK

Xbox 360 – £37.90/59.84/€45.16
PS3 – £37.90/59.84/€45.16
PC – £27.91/$44.07/€33.26

Your lucky I’ve written this weeks Cheap of Chimps as my entire brain is a jumble of Mass Effect 3 thoughts and like some junkie I’m twitching to get back to it as soon as possible. The closing chapter of Bioware’s sci-fi drama has arrived with much fan and critical praise. So was it worth waiting for? Bet your boots it was! The Reapers have launched an all out assault and only Sheppard can stop them. If you’re in two minds about buying this game, don’t be. Just do it. If your some kind of freakish oddball and haven’t taken your first intergalactic steps yet there has never been a better time to go back and look at the first game. You won’t regret it.

Red Faction Armageddon; at Amazon UK

Xbox 360 – £4.44/$7.01/€5.30

The Red Faction series has a special place in my heart as the original was the game which nabbed me a job working for Sony all those years ago. Yes times were good at the turn of the century, I had my first job in gaming, I had hair and we all still had the launch of GTA San Andreas to look forward to. RF: Armageddon harkens back to those times as, like the original, the action takes place on Mars in a game which has been over shadowed by many others in the genre. Despite a lacklustre story arch this is a game which lets your destructive inner child run riot, with virtually everything in the world breakable. Or more often than not blow-up-able. If your looking for a cheap FPS which offers pure unadulterated fun and is void of 12 year old kids questioning your sexuality in online play, you can’t do much better than this.

De Blob 2; at Play.com

PS3 – £12.85/$20.29/€15.34

One for the kids now, or yourself if you happen to have a massive bag of hallucinogens knocking about. The follow up to de Blob is a colourful and at times amusing plaformer. Including various missions and puzzles involving completing timed races, defeating enemies, liberating captured Graydians and seizing important landmarks, De Blob 2 received solid reviews and offers some light relief to those looking for a break from all that online shooting mayhem.

SimCity 4 Deluxe; at Gamestation

PC – £6.99/$11.04/€8.34

Before we all made the leap to games with over 70 hours worth of content or online gaming in various forms, the SimCity titles were the ultimate in time thievery. This week brought news that a 5th game would be released next year our collective SimCity fires have well and truly been rekindled. The last time we had to control a city was nearly a decade ago, yet despite it’s age SimCity 4 has held up very well in both gameplay and a graphics, as well as still being able to provide a thrill to any anal megalomaniac. The deluxe edition includes the Rush Hour expansion pack and is sure to keep you going until new title is launched.

Gamerillaz Top Pick Offer of The Week

Pre-owned Games and Hardware at GAME and Gamestation

We reported earlier in the week that both GAME and Gamestation are flogging off older stocks of both pre-owned games and hardware at some barging basement prices. Regular readers of Gamerillaz are telling us they have managed to pick up some bargains already, but if you’re a but slow off the mark don’t despair. Although a lot of the bigger named titles are now listed as out of stock on the retailers websites there are some deals still to be had, so take the time to have a look through the selections. The real bargains are to be found in store however, as the retailers work independently to a certain extent and have to discount their own personal stock at store level. This does mean you’ll have to venture outside and lets face it no one likes doing that if they can help it, but it does mean you may very well be able to find a deal on your high-street not available anywhere else.

We are also hearing reports that some stores are now selling some pre-owned consoles at very reasonable prices, so if your in the market for a console this could be a golden opportunity.
