Star Wars: The Old Republic – Update 1.2 to Include Enhanced Legacy System and Friend Trials

SWTOR has been doing nicely since it’s arrived towards the back end of last year and subscribers to the MMO will be looking forward to update 1.2 arriving this April. Bioware have been talking about what all you Jedi PC types can look forward to, including the opertunity to bring your real world chums into the game for a free week long trial.

The Friend Trial will allow new folks to play free of charge up to level 15 over the course of 7 days, but just incase your thinking about inviting every gamer you know to travel the galaxcy with you, bad new I’m afraid as you will be limited to just 3 of your best gaming buds. “That’s all well and good”, I hear you say, “but I’ve already bored the Be-Jeebus out of all my chums telling them how great SWTOR is, so much so they feel like they’ve already played it. Will there be anything new I can tempt them with?” Fear not gentle Reader…

A new Flashpoint mission is being added, entitled Lost Island, which will continue the story arch began in Flashpoint: Kaon Under Siege. Players must survive a menacing island of mystery on Ord Mantell as they hunt for answers to why the Rakghoul virus broke out and ravaged the Tion Hegemony. Cool, sounds like Columbo with Lightsabers.

If playing in large groups is your kind of thing then Operation: Explosive Conflict will certainly be of interest to you. Teams of 8 or 16 can hook up to explore the new zone on the planet of Denova, with plenty of droids and mercenaries to give a space age kicking too as criminals sell the rare explosive mineral baradium to the highest bidder.

Last but not least in the action part of the update is Warzone: Novare Coast, pitting two teams in combat with their aim of capturing various mortor locations then blowing the stuffing out of the enemy base. Nothing wrong with a bit of hot mortor shaft action we say.

The Legacy system which allows you to link characters to a ‘Family Tree’ is very interesting. Rather than just another cosmetic idea of lineage (as seen in other MMO’s) this one has the reward of various powers which can only be used by those of a particular bloodlines.

Of course there will be the tweaking of UI customisation, Guild Banks, PvP Warzone Rankings and combat balances, as you might expect with any major update. We think the future of Star Wars: The Old Republic is look very bright indeed and you can find out more about the game over at the official website.
