A live action trailer has been launched for a new undercover action game by Square Enix and United Front Games called Sleeping Dogs. Sleeping Dogs see’s players take control of Wei Shen an undercover cop, as he tries to clean the mean streets of Hong Kong, from the inside of the fearsome criminal organisation know as the Hong Kong Triads. If this sounds a bit familiar to you Sleeping dogs was once a little Activision title called True Crime:Hong Kong but Square Enix picked up the rights after Activison canned the game last year.
If the live action trailer is anything to go by we can expect massive shoot outs, street races and bloody martial arts, with the emphasis on the close combat and the developers wanting players to take on numerous opponents at the same time promising bone breaking environmental takedowns. Throw a full city like Hong Kong into the mix that players can explore and this could be really intresting title for 2012.
“From the moment you pick up the controller and experience the blend of driving, close combat and shooting you know you’re playing something fresh and a bit special,”
“Sleeping Dogs has one of the best melee combat systems out there – it’s super brutal with devastating takedown moves, and when added to UFG’s proven heritage in driving games, a first class story and the vibrant backdrop of the Hong Kong underworld we get a fiery recipe with fun written all over it.”
Lee Singleton, general manager of Square Enix London Studios.
“Working on Sleeping Dogs has been such a huge passion for the team at United Front Games and we’re really pleased to be working with Square Enix London Studios”
“The extensive experience that both studios have in creating compelling open world gameplay and rich, rewarding combat makes for a perfect partnership. Working together we’re ensuring Sleeping Dogs is the most intense and immersive game it can be.”
Stephen Van Der Mescht, executive producer at United Front Games.
It is currently slated for release in the second half of 2012 for the XBox 360,Playstation 3 and PC.
