CES 2012: Kinect For Windows

Microsoft have announced at CES that Kinect for Windows will touch down on PC’s from February 1st.

Packed with Kinect commercial SDK for developers, Kinect for Windows will be compatible for Windows 7 and Windows 8. Importantly, it will be for the PC only and not compatible with Xbox 360, which will continue on with it’s own Kinect. Exactly what it says on the tin.

One of it’s key features will be ‘near mode’ which gives the sensor power to detect movement and objects from just fifty centimetres.

According to a pre-order page set up by Amazon US Kinect for Windows is priced at $250 which is (unsurprisingly) a good $130 steeper than the current price for Xbox Kinect.

Academic licenses will be available for qualified users for $149

We have to say this is one bit of news from CES that is really getting our banana juices flowing…
